Structural Origins of Starch Properties

Lecturer: Alain Buleon | May 1, 2005

Dr. Alain Buleon from INRA, Unité de Physicochimie des Macromolecules, France presented this year's Belfort Lecture "Structural Origins of Starch Properties" on May 11, 2005. He received a Ph.D. in macromolecular chemistry from CNRS in Grenoble , France in 1977, and has been a Professor since 1987 at the French National Institute of Agronomic Research, where he was in charge of the "Structure Group" within the Laboratory of Physicochemistry of the Macromolecules, INRA from 1986-1992; Director of the Unity of Physicochemistry of the Macromolecules from 1992-2003; and has been responsible for the group "Semi Crystalline Assemblies" in the Unit "Biopolymers, Interactions, Assemblies" since January 2005. Dr. Buleon is Director of the GDR INRA/CNRS "Assembly of the biomacromolecule" (French collaborative network including 130 researchers of the 2 main National Research Institutes). He has 130 publications in peer-reviews and 100 communications. Dr. Buleon is the 2003 recipient of the Alsberg-French-Schoch Memorial Lectureship Award.
